About the Loft

This building is on the earliest maps of Cemaes Bay in the 1800's but at that time appeared to be joined on to nearby properties. It is on local deeds and mentioned as being involved in the fishing industry - hence the name - LLofft Penwaig (Herring Loft), as a nod to the salted herring industry which took place around these shores.

Over the subsequent years it has been many things - a clothes shop, an antique shop, a fishing tackle shop and in the 1930's a hairdresser called Danny Cohen lived and worked here.

When we bought the building it had been empty for about seven years and was almost derelict. The roof was broken and the back walls unsafe and required substantial rebuilding.

We had always loved the little building and have enjoyed bringing it back to life.

Local contractors were used in the building process and we could not be happier now that the building has a new lease of life.

We hope you can relax and come to love Ynys Môn or Anglesey, the place we now call home.

We welcome bookings to stay at Llofft Penwaig through Sykes Cottages
